Heartland Spice Trader Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
"The fruit for Heartland Spice Trader Cabernet Sauvignon comes from vines aged 25 years and over, growing in soils of sandy loam. The fruit was crushed into eight-tonne open fermenters and left on skins to cold macerate for three days prior to fermentation. The wine underwent malolactic conversion in oak and was then racked and returned to French and American oak hogsheads for 12 months’ maturation. Blending took place just prior to bottling.
The Langhorne Creek wine region experienced steady winter rainfall and multiple flood events that gave growers good storage of moisture and healthy vines leading into the growing season. Summer temperatures offered up robust fruit characters and bold structure that Cabernet Sauvignon loves to present.
The wine has a deep ruby colour from core to rim. The aromas are dominated by blackcurrants and ripe raspberries with an echo of mint and cedar. The palate offers the same notes but adds the heady tones of plum jam and anise. This will keep well but offers plenty of complexity for immediate enjoyment." – Ben Glaetzer, Heartland
