Heartland Spice Trader Shiraz 2022
The fruit for Heartland Spice Trader Shiraz comes from vines aged 25 years and over, growing in soils of sandy loam. Lower than average crops were the result of a dry flowering season, and temperatures were unusually mild. Harvest began on the 6th of February, with our Shiraz being picked in early March. A long cool growing season led to excellent phenolic ripeness and intense colour, and an inviting brightness on the palate.
Our Shiraz was de-stemmed, crushed and pumped over twice a day for nine days. The wine matured for 12 months in oak prior to bottling.
The aromas are of a fruit compote and freshly baked apple and raspberry pie. The longer you leave it, the more you get. Blackcurrants and dark forest fruits are cushioned by soft tannins providing a plush palate with a hint of Christmas spice on the finish. This is ready for enjoyment any time from release. – Ben Glaetzer, Heartland Wines.
