Kay Brothers 'Griffon's Key' Reserve Grenache 2019

Kay Brothers 'Griffon's Key' Reserve Grenache 2019

About this Wine

"It’s the top end Grenache from a producer better known for their Shiraz. As a wine critic, I shouldn’t say that I have a fondness for Kay’s, so I’ll say it as a wine enthusiast instead. Dried roses, ripe raspberry, something like black jelly beans, some sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, plush and mouth-filling, but gentle too, with insistent silky tannin nudging it along, soft acidity, a savoury cast to a long finish with a cushion of royal purple velour tannin easing it out. Delightful. Texture is a highlight here." 95pts - Gary Walsh - The WineFront

“One of Australia’s most sophisticated Grenaches achieves a seamlessly even accord between exacting varietal definition, gorgeous fragrance, alluring fruit integrity and, most of all, a powder-fine, mineral tannin structure of the highest order.  It coasts very long, undeterred in line and length.” 96pts - Tyson Stelzer - Wine Business Monthly

About the Winery
The Kay Brothers McLaren Vale Amery Vineyards grace the rolling foothills of the Southern Mt Lofty Ranges. Established in 1890 by Australian born brothers, Herbert and Frederick Kay, the Heritage listed Kays Amery Winery celebrated its first grape crush in 1895 and is the oldest McLaren Vale winery still in founding family hands.

Today, the family continues the winemaking traditions in the heritage listed cellars.

Kay Brothers utilise a traditional method of pressing out their wines. Their Celestial & Coq basket press was installed and ready for use in the 1928 vintage to replace older hydraulic and manual screw presses that had proved unreliable.
