Le Vignerons de Saint Pourcain Gamay Noir 2022
You’d be forgiven if you couldn’t put your finger on the map of France and point out Saint Pourcain. It sits south of Loire and west of Macon. The vineyards sit on the banks of the river Allier, a main tributary to the Loire but the landscape and varieties are matched with Burgundy. It’s actually one of France’s oldest regions and can claim its lineage back to Roman times. The vineyards sit at the same latitude as Macon and share the same desired south-east facing exposition.
Gamay + Pinot Noir blend. 30 years ago before the region was even AOC the co-operative of Saint Pourcain ‘borrowed’ the idea from Mouton Rothschild of launching this wine with a new label each year.
