Michael Hall Eden Valley Syrah, Flaxman’s Valley 2023
The Naimanya vineyard sits high in the Eden Valley at 520 meters altitude, on the south-west fringe of the tiny sub-region known as Flaxman’s Valley. The soils are sandy loam, gravel and quartz over clay. Its altitude and soil structure allow a long, slow ripening season typically generating marked spice and floral characters.
For wine nerds like me: High winter rains preceded a cool spring. Late budburst, flowering and a cool autumn combined for a very late vintage. Handpicked 27 April 2023, 95% destemmed, 5% whole bunch. Pressed to French oak (33% new), matured 14 months.
