Teusner Avatar Grenache Mataro Shiraz 2023
To anyone that has met Kym Teusner and Mick Page, it would come as no surprise to discover that Teusner Wines was conceived over a few beers at the local pub. Overhearing a conversation between a couple of Barossa grape growers about an old Grenache vineyard facing the chop demanded they come up with a rescue plan. Scratching together a bit of cash, the fruit found a new home, the old vines stayed in the ground and Teusner Wines came to life.
Whilst Shiraz might be the poster boy for the Barossa, Teusner believe blending it with Grenache and Mataro produces the best drinking wines from this region. Thanks to their good mates the Riebke brothers and other Barossa growers whose families have stuck by these varieties for the past 100 years or more, they're privileged to have fruit from very old vines to make great GMS blends.
